Science of the Human Body is an online, open-access, student-run undergraduate biomedical research journal. It publishes research papers and literature reviews written by biomedical and premedical students of the university colleges of Amsterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Maastricht, Rotterdam, and Middelburg. The journal may also feature interesting and challenging clinical cases that UC bio/pre-medical alumni have experienced during their master/PhD studies.
The aim is to create a platform where students can read about each other's research, which usually would only have been read by supervisors or teachers. It also gives the students a chance to learn and go through the process of publishing a scientific article in an academic journal, including the peer review process. All of the papers will be reviewed by student peer reviewers, also bio/pre-medical students of the previously mentioned university colleges. The students will then receive the credit they deserve, have an official publication, and inspire others with their research!
All members of the editorial board and all peer reviewers are students of the university colleges of Amsterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Maastricht, Rotterdam, and Middelburg. The founder of Science of the Human Body is Isabel Hageman a pre-med alumna of University College Roosevelt in Middelburg. She has been advised and supported by staff member prof. dr. Ger Rijkers, Head of Science. The technical aspects behind the set up of the issue as a readable and appealing document are the work of the IT team led by Jason Houtekamer.
The journal will be published online once every semester and is available to anyone interested.
